Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

A few weeks ago Richard and I took a drive up along the lake (Erie). We stopped in Vermilion, OH to explore this quaint village and stumbled upon an old-fashioned soda shop. Below are a few shots from inside this nostalgic place. Enjoy.

  1. Aha yes! I recall! To relax we sometimes drive to northwest Illinois to the town of Galena, home of President Ulysses Grant. The whole town is nostalgic and has a few of these old ice cream and soda shoppes. They’re wonderful, aren’t they?

    1. Yes, Annie, those places are wonderful~reminiscent of a simpler time (or at least that is how we like to remember it!) I hope to do more exploring along the lake this summer. I’m sure there are many wonderful places to while away some time. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

    1. The whole place was a delight. Everywhere I looked there were bits of nostalgia. I’m sure that we will find time to visit again. Thanks for stopping by, Martin. 🙂

  2. We don’t have enough places with character like this any more. Even when we find a place that has a nostalgic look, we discover that it’s part of a chain and the nostalgia is intentional, which sort of defeats the purpose. I had to look up Vermillion, OH when you mentioned Lake Erie. My brother lives in Mentor.

    1. Yes, I am very familiar with Mentor. It is about 20 minutes (depending on traffic) from where we live, but in the oposite direction from us than Vermilion. Even so, Mentor and Vermilion are probably just an hour to an hour and a half apart with Cleveland in between. I really like living in this part of the state which is a good thing since it looks like we are here to stay.

I agree with you about not having enough places with character any more. I hope to find more places like Vermilion to visit because they do harken back to a simpler, slower pace of life.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
