Our Glorious Vacation: Day One

We are finally taking a vacation, a real vacation! No business on this trip! Our first destination is the beautiful state of Kentucky, where we will spend some time with my parents and see other family and friends. Although I speak to Mom and Dad several times every week, it has been years since I’ve been home. I’m looking forward to it. The journey home happens to take us along one of the most beautiful highways in this country. We picked up Interstate 64 in Virginia and traveled that route through West Virginia into Kentucky, and will continue all the way to Louisville. Yesterday was a beautiful day for traveling. The photos below were all taken peering through the car windshield as we traveled, just to give you an idea of the landscape. We looked for a pull-off for a scenic view where I could get some good shots, but no luck. When I uploaded these photos last night in the motel, however, I was pleased. At least they give you an idea of the beautiful terrain of the countryside.

When we entered into West Virginia, we looked for a visitors’ center so that we could pick up some information about the state we were traveling through. To our dismay the visitors’ center was closed, but we were routed to another center quite a bit off the beaten path. That detour proved to be a delightful break, and below are some photos of this bucolic, historic little village of Greenbriar.

Once back on the road, we traveled through more beautiful country and into Kentucky. By this time we were both very tired, so we pulled off in Morehead, Kentucky for the night. The interesting draw to Morehead is that I graduated college from Morehead State University. Before we get back on the road to Louisville, I hope to make a drive through the campus.

If I get photos, I’ll post! So now, I’m off again, this time to get cleaned, fed and on the road toward Louisville and Mom and Dad! See y’all later. Have a glorious day.

EEK!!!! Beautiful photos, and not a one uploaded!!!!  Will try to fix this the next time I find wifi!  Sorry. 😦

    1. Not going to make it to Cumberland Gap on this trip. But we are seeing some beautiful landscapes and nature. It is good to be home. Photos were finally posted, and hopefully more “diary” to come soon! Thanks for commenting. Hope you enjoy what’s coming!!! 🙂

    1. Our 4th was a grand one, in a simple sort of way. I’ll post about it later. Enjoy the photos (reposted this blog and everything worked fine the second time around.) 🙂

    1. I reposted this and the photos came through the second time. Check it out. I will have more as the trip progresses. We are really having a glorious time! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  1. Enjoy your time away and bring other photos when you can… Sounds like a lot of fun already. 🙂
PS. Still catching up on commenting again after a hectic week that included 3 long days/nights at a yoga event. I will be attending another workshop in the coming week (7/11-7/14)and if I don’t leave comments, I will follow up on my return. 🙂

    1. Elizabeth, I don’t see how you do it with all you are involved in. Enjoy your workshops and I’ll see you when I can. I have a lot to catch up on, too, after this vacation. But it is nice to get away, relax, see the sights, be with family and friends. Thanks for stopping by.
