Five Question Friday!

As if I didn’t have enough on my platter, I just joined a new blog group (thanks to The Redneck Princess): Five Question Friday.  Every Friday I will receive five questions to answer and blog about.  Actually it can be simple, or in-depth, or whatever I want it to be.  At any rate, here goes:

1. What is your current favorite tv show?
Richard and I no longer own a tv so this one is a challenge for sure.  There are no current favorites, but when we did watch tv, the Amazing Race was one show we enjoyed together.  We would fantasize about how we would do in each situation. It was a fun show for the two of us to share.  Having said that however, we do not miss having a tv AT ALL!

2. What’s the worst haircut you ever got?
The worst haircut is the one I gave myself about a year ago.  I used one of those automatic clipper thingys and forgot to put the “guard” on that insures an even length.  I am so blind without my glasses that I could not see what I was doing and practically shaved my head.  :-\  Even so, I felt sooooo free not to have to fool with hair.  But I never did it again. (And NO, you are not seeing a picture!)

3. What was something that you did as a child that you thought you were so cool for doing?
We camped in a full size tepee that my parents made.  THAT was cool.  Every summer we camped in it, traveling all over the country and having adventures most people just dream of.

4. Do you have any GREAT frugal family fun tips?
Camping is way more fun than staying in motels, and way more cheap, too.  National parks and zoos are cheaper than other parks and zoos. Also, give each kid two zip lock bags one inside the other, salt and ice (in the outer bag), and milk, sugar, and vanilla (in the inner bag).  Seal both bags then let the kids go to town shaking those babies up and before you know it, every one will have their own home-made ice cream!

5. Would you drive across country if you had the money to fly?
I’ve flown a lot, but I would definitely drive.  LOVE road trips, LOVE seeing the sights and stopping in quaint places when I want. LOVE camping and being out-of-doors.  AND, I am seldom in such a hurry that I need to fly to get somewhere fast.
So, there you have it!  My first Five Question Friday.  See you back here next Friday for more questions. 🙂 If you are interested in joining Five Question Friday, click on the box below to travel through the blogosphere to the place where it all begins!

  1. 1. Outer Limits reruns. 2. Worst hair cut – each one every 5 weeks for 15 years – I cut my own hair.Set it at 1 inch and buzz away. 3. Won school history award in 8th grade and geography award in 9th. So what did this nerd become – history teacher 33 years. 4. “Save your money and don’t spend it so you have money when you need to spend it but don’t spend it then and save till you have more money for a day when it rains which is the only time you spend the money you saved” – my father’s wisdom. 5. Definitely drive. Have not gone anywhere beyond the mall for 25 years.

    1. Since I don’t have TV, don’t know or miss Outer Limts. The hair cut, I can identify. Just can’t justify $20 or $30 for a haircut right now. Maybe some day. Cool re: histor ad geography awards! I have a history minor from my college days. Love the subject. Since marrying my schientist international husband, I have become much more interested in geography, too. Your father’s wisdom is good advice these days! I drive, too, but I’ve traveled far beyond the mall. I love exploring this country and have been in every state except Alaska and California! Wow, thanks for participating in the five question friday!! Hope to see you again next week 🙂

  2. Good list, Cecilia. Here’s mine:

    1. The Mentalist
    2. When a hairdresser learned I was an attorney . . . she scalped me.
    3. Learning to ride a bike, tie my shoes, whistle, and snap my fingers.
    4. http://nrhatch.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/ten-free-activities-to-enjoy-with-kids/
    5. I’ve done several cross country trips. Now, I’d stay home and enjoy the beauty in my own backyard.

BTW: I now cut my own hair most of the time. I try not to scalp myself. 😉

  3. Good to learn a little more about you. We just bought a new TV, with built-in Netflix ‘n stuff so right now there’s more Tv-watching than usual … because of the novelty of it.

I’d love to drive across the continent..

    1. We don’t really miss the tv…it was just a big box taking up space so when we moved last, the tv did not come with us!

Maybe some day you’ll get to drive across the continent. It is beautiful —

  4. Hey that seems interesting…may be next week i’ll sign up too! my other blog is suffering without posts for months now…that way i can atleast blog once a week as promised 🙂

  5. OK, here goes:
    1. Favorite T.V. show- that’s hard since I have several but I’ll choose Modern Family, they make me laugh.
2.worst haircut- my wife was cutting my hair and the clipped slipped so my right side was almost bald- the highlight was we have 2 hours to get to the airport for our trip to Florida. I was able to find a barber before we left for the airport . Whew! Almost a disaster!
3.I was great in art. I always get compliments when I join the school’s art competition, particularly my parents . Aren’t our parents the best.
    4. I recently went on a father and son trip to the Alligator park for fathers day. cost me $9 for a priceless fun and memory. I made a post of it. check out the baby Gators- my son said they’re cute!
5.I would drive definitely if time permits. the most distance I had was California to Texas but the most fun my family had was our short trips to San Antonio and outer Austin, about 3-4 hour drive.
Hope you enjoy reading my contribution as much as I enjoy reading your “Five Question Friday!” Till next time.

  6. Thank you so much for subscribing to my blog. I am so honored that you stopped by 🙂 I will be stopping by more, and I subscribed to you as well. I was reading through your blog, and you really are a fantastic writer. I fell in love with 5QF through Donna (Redneck Princess) as well. See you soon!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Not many people will drive cross country, but Richard and I both love the option of going off the beaten path whenever the mood strikes and finding interesting sights. Of course when we are on a deadline, flying is the only way to go. Again, thanks for stopping by, and have a magnificent day!

  7. Thank you so much for the fun of reading your blog. I have joined up for more!

thank you also for taking the time to read my blog. It is really appreciated.
Can you tell me how to get these 5 questions each Friday please. I would like to try iyt!

    love P

    1. Fantastic! Go to the bottom of the 5QF post and click on the icon box. That should take you to the creator’s blog. Supposedly when you get there you will find instructions so that the questions show up for you every Friday. Since I have only done this once, I’m not sure exactly how it works, but if I don’t get them in my email on Friday mornings, I’ll just go to the 5QF page, copy the questions and paste to my blog. Hope that helps, and I look forward to reading what you have to say! 🙂 You may also want to go to Donna’s (The Redneck Princess) page to get the questions. See my post above to link to her page. Good luck.
